About the Role

FREO2 is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive East Africa Accountant to oversee financial operations across Uganda and neighboring countries. You will play a vital role in ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial processes while supporting the successful implementation of FREO2’s UNICEF-funded O2aaS program, providing uninterrupted oxygen to 35 healthcare facilities by May 2025. This role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with an international team, drive process improvements, and contribute to a mission that saves lives in low-resource settings.

Key Responsibilities

As the East Africa Accountant, your key focus areas will be:

  • Financial Management: Oversee program expenses, invoicing, reconciliations, payroll, and cash floats using Xero.
  • Planning and Budgeting: Collaborate with the Global Finance Manager to prepare budgets, monitor expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure adherence to accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and timely submission of reports to tax authorities and auditors.
  • Stakeholder Support: Communicate effectively with in-country teams, donors, and partners to manage receivables and provide financial guidance for program implementation.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive efficiency and innovation in financial systems, suggesting improvements to processes and supporting FREO2’s strategic goals.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience, ideally with NGOs or donor-funded programs.
  • Proficiency in Xero and strong expertise in financial operations, including payroll, procurement, and reconciliations.
  • Familiarity with financial statements preparation and compliance with tax regulations in East Africa.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a remote, international team.
  • Bonus: Experience with donor-funded projects and knowledge of East African taxation regulations.
